Spirit Triathlon is...
A Triathlon style event (Swim, Bike, and Run) for kids ages 7 to 11 designed to promote participation, community growth and physical literacy.
Inclusive Event for Youth: Our focus is on all kids, not just the athletic ones. We have both an individual and relay event format.
Building Confidence & Resilience: Participating in Spirit Triathlon teaches goal-setting, fitness, and nutrition.
Strengthening Communities: We foster school pride, teamwork, and unity amongst school communities.
Inspiring Healthier Futures: By empowering youth, with physical literacy skills we contribute to a stronger, healthier community.
HOW Are We Different?
Inclusive Environment: This event fosters a welcoming atmosphere where young athletes of all abilities and fitness levels can participate, emphasizing teamwork and community over competition.
Non-Competitive Focus: Unlike traditional triathlons that emphasize rankings and times, Spirit Triathlon celebrates every participant's achievements, and builds self-esteem and a positive relationship with sports.
Flexible Participation Options: Children can participate individually or as part of a relay team, allowing for greater accessibility and encouraging peer collaboration.
Community Engagement: Spirit Triathlon actively partners with local schools and involves parents, teachers, and community leaders, creating a strong support network that enhances the experience for participants.
Focus on Personal Growth: The event encourages participants to set and achieve personal goals, instilling a sense of accomplishment and a lifelong enthusiasm for physical activity.
In-School & Afterschool Programs: Giving students transferable triathlon skills for event day and beyond.
MEET GRace
Grace, the founder of Spirit Triathlon, has transformed personal adversity into a powerful movement promoting resilience, health, and community. Spirit Triathlon began as her commitment to reclaim her life and health after a devastating cancer diagnosis in 2009. Determined to live and raise her sons, then just 1 and 5 years old, she pursued aggressive treatment and adopted profound lifestyle changes. This journey led her to set a bold goal: to complete a triathlon. Initially a reluctant runner, Grace embraced the challenge, to discover a newfound love for the sport—and a deeper calling to inspire others facing their own battles.
In 2014, Grace faced yet another profound loss when her husband suddenly died in a work accident. Despite this great loss for her and her family, after she raised her children, she eventually returned to her vision of inspiring future generations through Spirit Triathlon. In one year, the event blossomed from 42 participants to over 300, evolving into a celebration of hope and determination that touches countless lives. Partnering with Triathlon BC, Grace has expanded the event's mission to empower youth, piloting programs that build confidence and foster community. Through Spirit Triathlon, she envisions a legacy of strength and resilience, inspiring future generations to overcome obstacles, increase their confidence, and embrace their full potential.
